A safe space for healing and self-compassion.

Poirier Counselling, founded by Katie Poirier (she/her), offers support for individuals navigating the echoes of trauma, eating disorders, body shame, and difficult life transitions with a compassionate, inclusive, and client-centred approach.

Together, we work to rebuild trust in your body and create space for nourishment, connection, and self-compassion.

Mission

I approach therapy as a relational, client-centered process. I don’t just hear your story, I listen to the storyteller beneath it. I help you meet the parts of yourself you may have learned to protect or reject, with curiosity, compassion, and gentle guidance.

My hope is that each person who comes to therapy feels less shame, less loneliness, and more connected to their own humanity, resilience, and sense of possibility. Healing takes work,  but it doesn’t have to feel heavy.

IT’S TIME TO GO BEYOND THE SURFACE

Like an iceberg, what we see on the surface — food behaviours, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm — is often just a small glimpse of what lies underneath.

Beneath that surface are layers of grief, protection, longing, and unmet needs that have helped you survive.

Imagine…

Exploring your inner thoughts and patterns with curiosity and compassion, not shame

Finding relief from persistent negative thoughts about food, body, or self

Feeling supported, grounded, and empowered in your sense of self

Therapy with Poirier Counselling is a space to explore why certain thoughts, habits, or feelings persist, without judgment.

Poirier Counselling is located in Amiskwacîwâskahikan — Edmonton, Alberta, on Treaty 6 Territory, the ancestral and traditional lands of the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Saulteaux, Niitsítapi (Blackfoot), Nakota Sioux, Dene, Tsuut’ina, and Métis Nations.

I acknowledge the ongoing and enduring presence, strength, and sovereignty of the Indigenous peoples of this land. I also recognize that colonial systems — including those embedded in healthcare and mental health — continue to cause harm.

As a mental health practitioner, I am committed to the ongoing work of decolonizing my practice, which includes learning from Indigenous worldviews, naming and challenging systemic oppression, donating to initiatives that support marginalized and underrepresented communities, and creating space for more relational, accountable, and community-rooted care.
